The speakers in this seminar will address how to get “buy in” from IT, Legal or Management on implementing an Electronic Records Management system or program. You will learn strategies you can take from the speakers’ relative perspectives (Legal, IT) to getting a program started and presenting a value proposition for the management of electronic content and records. Part of the focus will be in how to deal with top-down resistance and how to educate management about the need for managing electronic records. You will also hear respective Case Studies from these perspectives and experiences demonstrating successes and disasters in dealing with issues of RIM or ERM.
Speakers / Bio:
Therese Miller is an attorney at Shook, Hardy and Bacon in San Francisco, practicing e-discovery, information, records management, compliance, data privacy, and data security law. Her litigation experience includes products liability, intellectual property, and information technology cases. She holds a degree in management information systems (MIS) and is an accomplished web designer. She advises clients on issues involving information law, web 2.0, social media and cloud computing. Therese is a member of ARMA International, the American Bar Association
Science & Technology Section's Cloud Computing Committee, the ABA Section of Antitrust Law Privacy and Information Security Committee, and The Sedona Conference Working Groups 1 and 6.
Tim Mulcahy is the Director of the Justice Information Management Systems Department, which provides information management and technical support for the operation of the Tenth Judicial District of Kansas, which encompasses Johnson County and the eighteen cities within the county, a position he has held for the past seventeen years. In addition to supporting the operations of the district court, JIMS provides IT management support for the District Attorneyâ€s Office, District Court Services, the Sheriffâ€s Office, and the Johnson County Community Corrections Department. Prior to joining Johnson County Government, Tim was the Director of Information Technology for the Shawnee County District Court in the Kansas capitol of Topeka for more than six years. Tim has dual degrees in computer science and mathematics from the University of Central Missouri and is a member of several local, regional, and national industry groups and associations.
John Wang is an industry leader, product manager, systems architect, and author focusing on information management with specializations in archiving, search, and E-Discovery. In this role as Product Manager for ZL Technologies Unified Archive(R), John focuses on the intersection of emerging business requirements for large enterprises and the technologies that can address those requirements to ensure ZL Technologies continues to provide cutting-edge information management solutions. His experience includes creating solutions and architecting deployments for leading Fortune 500 firms. John participates in industry efforts as project chair for the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) Project, participant leader for the Text REtrieval Conference (TREC) Legal Track, participant in The Sedona Conference, and vice president for AIIM Golden Gate Chapter. He has presented at key conferences and forums including Oracle OpenWorld, EDRM, TREC, ABA Electronic Discovery and Digital Evidence (EDDE) Committee, and AIIM.
